When Ralph Nader decided to enter the 2004 race for the White House, Democrats were shaken, but the well-known consumer activist told them not to fear. Nader, whom many liberals blame for Al Gore's 2000 loss to George W. Bush, says his 3rd-party candidacy will actually help the liberal John Kerry.

According to the Seattle Times, Nader wrote an open letter to "Anybody-But-Bush Liberal Democrats" in which he claimed that "his campaign will bring more votes for Kerry by making him 'appeal more forcefully for the interests of the people' by giving him ammunition to use against Bush and by creating a more exciting campaign that will drive up voter turnout."
