Over 40 Million Killed.
Hillary was the keynote speaker at a National bortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (NARAL) celebration dinner observing the 31st anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Other guests of note who spoke at the bash were the NAACP's Julian Bond, Bradley Whitford of the "West Wing," and Newsweek's Anna Quindlen. Sen. Clinton's speech focused on how abortion is a civil right, and that the mean ol' Republicans are trying to send women back into the dark alleys with coat hangers. "I don't think there has been a time in 31 years with the rights proclaimed in Roe v. Wade have been more at risk," she said. Hillary went on the claim that abortion opponents are not fighting openly against Roe, but are working tirelessly behind closed doors, "state by state, law by law, judge by judge, justice by justice, decision by decision" to overturn abortion rights, civil rights and all rights gained by women, workers and minorities over the past century. As she spoke, she was interrupted numerous times by cheers and applause. Oddly enough, she criticized Republicans for what she called their hypocrisy in advocating the right to privacy in relation to gun ownership but dismissing the idea in relation to abortion. Perhaps it's because gun ownership is explicitly guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment, while there is hardly a hint of the so-called "right to privacy" in the Constitution. Then she accused President Bush and the Republican Congress of trying to destroy Americans' right to privacy. If they are allowed to prevail, she said, "Americans will wake up in a country they don't recognize." One day earlier, Sen. Clinton signed on as an original cosponsor to Senator Barbara Boxer's bill codifying Roe v. Wade.
Follow the Money.
The Washington Post's Howard Kurtz recently did a story that detailed how members of the media contribute money to their favorite political candidates. It was revealed that Troy Roberts, a correspondent for CBS's "48 Hours," donated $1,000 to Hillary's 2000 Senate campaign, as did Emily Senay, a correspondent of CBS's "Early Show." While it may be ironic to see that these news personalities, who claim to be non-biased in their reporting, support politicians of their choice financially, it really is their right to do so. Of course, it would be nice if these reporters told the American people on the air that they support these politicians so we know just where they are coming from. Besides, most members of the media make the most priceless contribution of all to Hillary's efforts, that is, a constant barrage of positive press and glowing coverage of whatever she does, and that's the kind of support money just can't buy.
Run HRC.
Hillary recently appeared at a New York City press conference with rappers "Jay-Z," "DJ Freze" and NBA star Stephon Marbury to join forces in a campaign to get business leaders to "adopt" city public schools.
Several NYC radio stations each pledged $10,000 for these efforts, and Mrs. Clinton said the stations could use their influence and knowledge of the schools to counter negative media images of public schools. Said Hill: "There are so many good stories in every one of these schools. There are so many great kids. But what do we see when we pick up the paper? We see the problems. We see the difficulties. We see the very small minority of kids who get into trouble...That is not an accurate or fair depiction." But Jay-Z probably summed it up best when he said "Don't be a fool, stay in school."
PETA, Part II. Apparently, Hillary's fur trouble with the animal-rights group PETA isn't going away. It may be remembered that when a report came out last month that a prominent NY furrier was making a mink coat for Hillary, the senator's office first allegedly tried to find out who leaked the news, then officially came out and said that it was not a mink coat, but velvet. PETA President Ingrid Newkirk claims that Mrs. Clinton's double cover-up is disappointing and she wants the truth. "I live in the hope that Americans will continue to demand honesty from their politicians, as well as empathy and kindness," she said. Newkirk also vowed to let animal lovers across New York State know about Hillary's bloodlust. Meanwhile, the Clinton office introduced a new twist, saying that "The senator has owned a mink coat for over 25 years. Because it was worn, she traded it in."
Not A Second Time.
Hillary was primed to win a second Grammy for her taped reading of Living History, but she lost out to Al Franken and his reading of Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them. Also in the running for a Grammy for the ??¢â???¬?????Best Spoken Word??¢â???¬ category was Bill Maher??¢â???¬â???¢s rendition of When You Ride Alone, You Ride With Osama. Obviously, the liberal vote was split three ways in this category. But all was not lost in the Clinton household, as husband Bill took home his first Grammy, for lending his voice to the Russian folktale of Peter and the Wolf. He shared the Grammy for 'Best Spoken Word Album for Children' with former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, and legendary beauty Sophia Loren.
Medicare Scare.
With the retirement of Sen. John Breaux (D.-La.), Senate Democrats are looking for a good liberal to fill his seat on the coveted Finance Committee. Hillary??¢â???¬â???¢s name, of course, has been rumored as a potential successor. One reason, say Democrats, is that there is now just one woman, Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.), on the committee. However, the Dems would more likely love to have Hillary on the panel because of her tireless partisanship and staunch opposition to any Republican plans for Medicare, while Sen. Breaux was a moderate who worked with the administration on things like Medicare and Social Security reform. Hillary would have none of that. In fact, she has been leading a recent attack against administration ads designed for seniors, touting the new drug benefit, saying that such ads are inappropriate and politically driven and should be stopped immediately. Says Hill: ??¢â???¬?????The administration chose to use the media team that is part of the Team Bush re-election. They are so arrogant that they go ahead and use their campaign media team. I??¢â???¬â???¢m waiting for the outcry.??¢â???¬ Unfortunately for Hillary and her colleagues, it was then pointed out that the media firm actually had Democratic ties, but this news will probably not slow down Hillary in her determined campaign to criticize everything the administration does.
