In an effort to keep the American people informed about where their tax dollars are going and to keep politicians accountable, we are bringing to you a regular list of pork projects delivered fresh from the fiscal 2004 omnibus spending bill.

The Senate has yet to vote on the Omnibus Appropriations Bill, so it's not too late to defeat it. You can contact your Senator by dialing the Senate switchboard and asking for your Senator's office: 202-224-3121.

$250,000 for the Cleveland Botanical Garden’s "One by One Thousand Outreach Project."

-We are now spending "outreach" money to convince people to go to a botanical garden, presumably so that we can then spend more money later on the botanical garden.

-----

$100,000 for "Idaho Women Work!"

-Your money is going to a program that engages in mostly left-wing political advocacy. According to their website, "Women Work!" advocates disastrous policies such as a higher federal minimum wage, expansion of the federal Family and Medical Leave Act, and expansion of welfare programs, to name just a few. And now they’ll be doing it on your dime. The government doesn't fund Americans for Tax Reform. Why should it fund any advocacy organization, regardless of political stripe?

-----

$500,000 State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services Obesity Prevention and Control program.

-Twenty years ago, your mom would just tell you to eat healthy. That didn’t cost anything. Today, the government wants to do it instead, at great cost and with no better results.

-----

$500,000 for the Valdez Senior Center, Valdez, Alaska for improvements.

-The Alaska pork machine does it again in Valdez, population 4,036.
