Russian President Vladimir Puin has proposed that he meet with President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping next month to work out a deal in an attempt to bring the war between Russia and Ukraine to an end, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was not invited.

The outlet reported that the meeting was broached in a call to Trump on October 9, and that should it be agreed to it could take place during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in November. The call also touched on the deal for Russia to sell diesel fuel to the global market.

“There’s been talks of a meeting. I don’t know whether it’s been finalized, but the president has been clear," Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in comments to Reuters on Monday.

“The president is open to anything that he can do to help bring a war to an end, if it’s possible, and we’ll continue to look for opportunities to do that,” Rubio added.

The report comes as the war rages on between Russia and Ukraine. On Monday, Zelensky said that Russia fired a barrage of missiles in a "deliberate attack on Kyiv and the Kyiv region."

"Another Russian ballistic missile attack came in several waves overnight, and once again, there was no early warning from our partners. They again targeted energy facilities and infrastructure, but a medical clinic, a school, a metro station, and ordinary residential buildings were also damaged. In total, the Russians launched 16 ballistic missiles in a deliberate attack on Kyiv and the Kyiv region," he said. "The Russians also launched more than 200 drones of various types, including jet-powered 'shaheds,' with attacks spanning from the Kharkiv and Dnipro regions to the Volyn, Rivne, and Odesa regions."

The deal also comes after Trump has called for an energy ceasefire, urging Ukraine and Russia to stop striking oil infrastructure as Trump continues his efforts to keep down energy prices. Neither Ukraine nor Russia complied. The US leader said that it was time for Ukraine to get a "new president."
