The Ministry of National Defense confirmed the operation on Monday, noting it took place between June 19 and 20. The National Guard led the raid with support from the Mexican Army and personnel from the Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR). Authorities arrested Jorge “N,” who was identified as an alleged member of the “Pacific Cartel,” widely known as the Sinaloa Cartel. He was transferred to FGR custody in Los Mochis, reports Mexican News Daily.
Officials said the raid occurred at an agricultural warehouse property in the city, located roughly 210 kilometers northwest of Culiacan, the state capital. Inside, federal forces recovered not only the liquid methamphetamine but also large quantities of chemical precursors used in synthetic drug production.
According to Defensa, authorities also seized 98,640 liters and 59,425 kilograms of chemical substances linked to drug manufacturing. Two vehicles were confiscated along with firearm magazines and ammunition of various calibers.
Security Minister Omar García Harfuch posted details of the operation on X, saying federal forces also secured additional materials during the raid.
García Harfuch also said the seizure represents the largest liquid methamphetamine bust since the current administration took office in October 2024, and the second-largest on record in Mexico. He said the operation delivers a significant financial blow to organized crime, estimating losses exceeding 9 billion pesos (about US $512.3 million).
“These actions prevent the mass production of synthetic drugs, directly hit the operational and financial capacity of criminal groups, and strengthen our country’s security,” he wrote.
He added that federal policy is focused on dismantling production sites and disrupting supply chains, attributing the directive to President Claudia Sheinbaum.
Garcia Harfuch reported that authorities have dismantled 2,407 clandestine drug laboratories and seized 419.3 tonnes of narcotics since October 2024. Officials also say 56,134 people have been detained for alleged high-impact crimes, along with 29,572 firearms confiscated through May 2026.
President Sheinbaum described the Los Mochis seizure as a “good seizure” during her Tuesday morning press conference, calling it part of routine security operations.
