A shake-up inside the Trump administration’s cabinet drew immediate reaction Thursday during Human Events Daily, where Jack Posobiec spoke with pollster Rich Baris about the reassignment of Kristi Noem from Secretary of Homeland Security to a new role focused on hemispheric security.

The move would also bring Sen. Markwayne Mullin into the Department of Homeland Security, marking the first major cabinet-level reshuffle of Donald Trump’s second term.

Posobiec raised the development at the start of the discussion, asking Baris for his reaction to the news and the reasoning behind the shift.

“On all this, Rich, I want to get your immediate reaction to this news regarding the Secretary of Homeland Security moving over to this new position, the special envoy to America’s Shield, sort of the Don Roe doctrine of the southern Americas, and Markwayne Mullin coming in,” Posobiec said. “This is big, right? This is the first time that we've seen in the second Trump term that a cabinet-level official has made a transfer like this, has made a move like this. What do you think is going on? What do you think is precipitating this?”

Baris argued the change had been building for some time.

“This was inevitable. So, I mean, there were really two choices here. She’s been plagued by a lot of stuff, not only what was happening with ICE, but questions about contracts, Jack, and bidding and recruitment,” Baris said.

“So there was really two choices: find other utilization for her and get her out from underneath the line of fire, or wait for Democrats to take aim and do their thing.”

Baris pointed to recent scrutiny on Capitol Hill as a signal that the situation could become politically damaging if left unresolved.

“It was better and smarter to move her now and get her out of there now,” he said. “I don’t know if everybody saw it, but the other day with the line of questioning with Kennedy, Tom Tillis is a blowhard who's not going to face the voters because he went against Trump too much, so he’s going to tuck tail and run.”

“But somebody like Kennedy having that exchange that he did with her really was a sign that, look, if Democrats take the House and or the Senate coming in November, you just can’t have baggage like that laying around. It was smart. It had to move her over. She had to go.”
