“What’s going on in Minnesota right now is simply a microcosm of the larger issue that is attacking the West in its entirety,” MacIntyre said. He argued that political leaders have been unwilling to confront what he described as an obvious reality: that large-scale immigration from incompatible cultures cannot simply be absorbed without consequences.
“People from different cultures, from incompatible cultures, cultures that absolutely are a failure by our standards, they simply cannot move here and then magically become part of our civilization,” he said. “I think it’s very obvious to many people now that that’s the case.”
MacIntyre said public frustration over immigration has been building for years, particularly in Europe, where political elites long dismissed concerns raised by ordinary citizens. According to him, the rise of populist movements across the continent shows how desperate voters are for what he called a “return to sanity” on immigration policy.
“The absolute magnitude of the different populist movements that have forced their way through these European countries, in spite of their leadership, just shows you how desperately people want a return to sanity when it comes to immigration,” he said.
“Most people are okay with some level of immigration,” MacIntyre said. “But they want it to be people who already are very compatible, who are going to contribute to their nation.”
Instead, he argued, Western countries have imported populations that often reject the norms of their host societies. “They don’t want people who are going to come in immediately trying to change it, become a financial drain, or be violent,” he said. “All of these things become clannish, tribal.”
MacIntyre contrasted Western civic identity with what he described as more tribal social structures common in parts of the Middle East and North Africa. “Europe has gone through a different type of socialization,” he said. “They created societies where identity is very different than it is in classic tribal societies.”
He argued that when large numbers of people who never went through that process are brought into Western nations, integration fails. “They will not compete based on merit,” MacIntyre said. “They will not conform to the understandings of the society they’re now in. They will continue their tribal and clannish behavior inside their own ethnic ghettos.”
“We’re all tired of this,” he added.
“Trump is done backing down,” MacIntyre said, expressing support for the administration’s decision to continue deportations despite media pressure. He dismissed coverage characterizing enforcement efforts as excessive, calling it propaganda.
“They continue their deportations. They are not backing down,” he said.
MacIntyre noted reports suggesting the possible deployment of military police units to Minnesota, describing it as a sign that the administration intends to increase, not decrease, law enforcement presence. “I’m very glad that Trump is making that an issue that all European leaders have to deal with,” he said. “Because their populations do not want this.”
