In an interview with NBC LA, yet another DSA rep, one Dr. Frances Gill, addressed why she thought DSA-backed and DSA adjacent candidates were doing so well. The anchor asked her about the primary win for Abdul El-Sayed, the far-left Egyptian Muslim who touts a Medicare-for-all plan despite his own wife not accepting the insurance at her own psych practice. El-Sayed and the DSA tout their allegiance to the working class, just as communists and socialists have done for over a century. But it's not real, it's just a ruse.
"Abdul El-Sayed's victory in the Democratic primary in the Senate in Michigan," the anchor asked, "of the 15 counties where a majority do not have a college degree, he lost every one of them, over 15. In the counties with high education, like you, he won. So how can you say you're for the working class when working class counties in Detroit and elsewhere voted against your candidate?"
Gill took it to heart, because the question was about people like herself, and if there's anything she knows about, it's people like herself—not the working class. The generations who came after the Boomers sank money into college, grad school, only to find that the job market did not support a wage that made it possible for them to pay back the loans they took out for degrees with no job prospects. They found themselves unable to comfortably save for a home, raise a family, or any of the rest of the American Dream. Those people, who are in their mid-to-late 20s on up to their 40s, feel they were made a promise, delivered on their end, only to be let down.
That's why they're leaning toward something else, a political ideology where they can take the burden off of themselves and say "all these hardships are the fault of the rich, make them pay." Or "the government should do more to make my life better." That's what Gill said she and the other socialists are looking for when they take their shiny, expensive, useless degrees in higher education and vote for a guy like El-Sayed. The working class that voted for his opponent know the lies when they hear them.
"People who are highly educated in this country were promised this path of economic success," Gill said. "If you go to college, if you get the degree, if you go down that path, you're going to be guaranteed economic success. But really what we're seeing is that there's this huge downward mobility problem, where people are putting in the money, taking out hundreds of thousands dollars of student loans, I have a half a million dollars in student loan debt personally, and not seeing that translate into economic success because in our society the scales are so tipped in one direction to benefit the rich and the wealthy."
She is full of vengeance and grievance with a yen for retribution. She is highly educated but does not excel in her field. She does not realize that the biggest part of that "promise" she references was one that required effort beyond just showing up with a degree in hand.
She believes she is entitled to more, including to that which others have. She's bitter, she feels oppressed because she followed the rules and didn't come out with a mansion of her own. The goal of these DSA devotees is to mobilize the working class with promises that will be left unfulfilled while destroying all the tools the working class could use to build a better life.
Tuition is so high because government got involved in paying for it and universities used that as an opportunity to jack it up. People can't get jobs with their gender studies and critical theory degrees because there never were any jobs in those fields—universities started offering them because kids seemed to want them and the schools could make money, not because they would result in jobs. College became a consumer model where students were customers demanding a service.
Now these kids claim to be fighting for the working class but they're really fighting for themselves. And they are angry because it turns out life is hard and they want it to be easy. As Andrew Kolvet said, these "Highly educated, middling, low-performing 'lesser nobles' believe they should be entitled to more - more wealth, more influence, and more prestige. Bitter intellectuals turn to authoritarian movements because it makes them important again. This is one of the destructive byproducts of saying everyone should go to college."
JD Vance addressed the question "Why are young people attracted to socialism in 21st century America?" And in his response, he quoted Charlie Kirk, who, he said, "talked about the fact that if you don't give young people a stake, if you don't give them ownership, if you don't give them a sense of the American dream and of possibility in the future, they're going to become socialists. Like if you have a zero sum environment for a 25 year old in this country, they're going to start to say the only way for me to get anything is to take away from somebody else. So we have to get away from like the zero sum thinking. I think that's like the root cause of this."
Frances Gill and the other DSA leaders make it quite clear that Kirk was right then and Vance is right now. What is America offering Americans other than inflation, rising costs, a lack of good jobs, high housing and healthcare costs? It's conservatives who have to make the change, because Democrats are clearly comfy with communism, they appear to yearn for it.
Socialism ruins everything for everyone, but how do we convince someone like Gill of that reality? She doesn't care if boats sink for everyone because she doesn't even feel like she has a paddle. The problem isn't that she can't identify the problems, it's that she can't see the serious, fatal flaws in her own solution, or even worse, she's in favor of those flaws. Millions have died under communist leadership in the past century. And yet American conservatives, normal not-particularly-partisan people, and establishment Dems just do not have the imagination to see that this is exactly where this movement is headed. America is not immune from this threat of destruction from the inside and every primary win for a socialist candidate brings us that much closer to the ravaging of our republic.
