Alec Penstone, who is 100 years old, shocked the hosts at Good Morning Britain when he said that all the sacrifices he and other men made in World War II to fight for their freedoms were not worth the state of the UK today.
"My message is, I can see in my mind's eye those rows and rows of white stones and all the hundreds of my friends who gave their lives, for what? The country of today? No, I'm sorry - but the sacrifice wasn't worth the result of what it is now," he said.
He was then asked by the hosts to clarify what he meant by that, and he responded, "What we fought for was our freedom, but now it's a darn sight worse than when I fought for it." He did not specify what freedoms were in worse condition, or the factors from the culture had led him to come to the conclusion.
Host Kate Garraway replied to his admission, "Alec, I'm sorry you feel like that and I want you to know that all the generations that have come since, including me and my children, are so grateful for your bravery and all the other service personnel. It's our job now to make it the country that you fought for, and we will do."
Penstone continued, saying that "it's so wonderful to know there are people like you who spread the word around to the younger generations."
Some have suggested that the elderly veteran was referring to mass migration that has taken place in the UK. Political commentator Matt Walsh responded, "This man fought for his country. Today he looks around and sees that it has surrendered itself to a third world Islamic invasion. Men like him — white men who built his country — are demonized and scapegoated."
"And while Arab migrants rape and kill in the streets, the government focuses its energies on arresting people who say insulting things about trannies on the internet. A travesty of historic proportions," Walsh added.
Additionally, there have been people who have been arrested for memes and offensive posts online on the topic of immigration and others, something that Vice President JD Vance, as well as other American public leaders, have decried as violations of free speech rights.
