An Icelandic trans-identified male has won the women’s division of the 2025 Disc Gold Professional Tour (DGPT) Q-Series Reykjavik Open. María Eldey Kristínardóttir has a total of 25 career wins over 68 events, bringing in $5,128.

Kristínardóttir received attention at the end of July after competing in the women’s division of the Professional Disc Golf Association’s (PDGA) Professional World Championships in Finland. The athlete came in 27th place in that competition and won $600.

Kristínardóttir also received first place at the Íslandsmót ÍFS 2025 in Reykjavik earlier in August, bringing home $121 while the athlete’s female competitors did not receive prize money. In late July, Kristínardóttir came in second place at the 2025 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships’ Long Drive Competition.

DGPT abides by the transgender policy set forth by the PDGA. Biologically male players who wish to compete in the women’s division are eligible to do so if they meet one of two sets of criteria: they have been taking hormone therapy for at least 24 months, have a testosterone level below 2 nmol/L for at least 24 months, and continue to be below this level and take hormone treatments; or, they have undergone a sex change surgery and their testosterone level remains below 2 nmol/L for 24 months prior to the PGDA event.
