Anthony Gilheany, 30, was apprehended within minutes of the incident, according to Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy. "Since then, investigators have worked tirelessly to build the case and have today charged Anthony Gilheaney with four counts of attempted murder. Our thoughts now are with the victims, one of which remains in critical condition in hospital," he said, per The Times.
Gilheany was also charged with causing serious injury by driving while disqualified, driving a motor vehicle dangerously and possession of a bladed article in a public place. He appeared at a court in Westminster on Friday and has been remanded into custody until his court hearing next year.
The incident on Wednesday, described by the police as "isolated and not terror-related, began when a fight broke out at a central London nightclub. A driver then drove into a crowd of people and Metropolitan Police responded to a "road traffic collision and a car driving on the wrong side of the road" at 12:45 am. Police cordoned off the area which contained blood and items of clothing strewn across pavement.
