Chinese authorities said the man who killed at least 35 people and injured dozens of others after plowing down a crowd in China was reportedly upset about his divorce settlement. The suspect, 62, who has been identified by her surname Fan, is in a coma after sustaining self-inflicted wounds, police said.

The incident occurred on Monday night in Zhuhai, the Guangdong province in southeastern China. The suspect rammed his vehicle into a crowd of people exercising outside of the Zhuhai Sports Center, which was built for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Horrifying images and video footage showed injured individuals lying on the ground following the attack, the Daily Mail reported.

Chinese authorities said he allegedly committed the wicked act after becoming enraged over the outcome of a property settlement that occurred after his divorce. The majority of those injured were "middle-aged and elderly people who were exercising on the track," witnesses told local media. Children and teenagers were also among the victims.

The suspect charged his vehicle toward a group at a high speed, said witness Mr. Chen, who explained that the attack "knocked down many people." Chen was at the stadium to attend a regular walk with his walking group on a nearby path, as per Chinese news magazine Caixin.

Another witness said the suspect "drove in a loop, and people were hurt in all areas of the running track - east, south, west, and north."
