BREAKING: Iran launches missile attack on Israel: IDF

"A short time ago missiles were launched from Iran into the territory of the State of Israel."

"A short time ago missiles were launched from Iran into the territory of the State of Israel."

The Israeli Defense forces announced on Tuesday that Iran launched missiles toward the country. "A short time ago missiles were launched from Iran into the territory of the State of Israel," an IDF spokesperson said, according to Axios.

"You are asked to be vigilant and act exactly according to the instructions of the Home Front Command. The IDF is doing and will do everything necessary to protect the citizens of the State of Israel."

The IDF announced on X that all Israeli citizens were in bomb shelters "as rockets from Iran are fired at Israel." The New York Times reports that around 180 total ballistic missiles were launched. It also has stated one man was killed in the West Bank and that 2 people have been wounded by shrapnel in Tel Aviv.

The IDF announced in a follow-up post that around "10 million civilians are the targets of Iranian projectiles."

According to The Guardian, The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said that the missile attack was in retaliation for the deaths of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in July, and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Iranian Revolutionary Guard deputy commander Abbas Nilforoushan, who were killed in Lebanon last week.

The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, New York posted to X, "Iran’s legal, rational, and legitimate response to the terrorist acts of the Zionist regime—which involved targeting Iranian nationals and interests and infringing upon the national sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran—has been duly carried out. Should the Zionist regime dare to respond or commit further acts of malevolence, a subsequent and crushing response will ensue. Regional states and the Zionists’ supporters are advised to part ways with the regime."

IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said, "We are on heightened alert on defense and offensive, we will protect the citizens of Israel. This [missile] fire will have consequences. We have plans, and we will act in the time and place that we choose," Times of Israel military correspondent Emanuel Fabian reported.

The Israeli military announced that it had conducted a situational assessment and citizens were permitted to leave protected spaces throughout the country. A spokesperson for Israel’s military said that they were not aware of any injuries from the attack at that point.

Air travel in and out of Israel has reportedly been shut down, and Jordan and Iraq have shut down their airspaces, Reuters reported.

GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump wrote in response to the attack, "The World is on fire and spiraling out of control. We have no leadership, no one running the Country. We have a non-existent President in Joe Biden, and a completely absent Vice President, Kamala Harris, who is too busy fundraising in San Francisco, a City which she and Gavin Newscum totally destroyed, and staging fake photo ops. No one is in charge and it's not even clear who is more confused: Biden or Kamala. Neither has any idea what is even going on."
