Prominent doctors with decades of experience have resigned from the British Medical Association (BMA) due to the union's opposition to the landmark Cass Report, which revealed the harmful impact of sex change treatments for minors.

The union's leaders rejected the review's findings and called for the lifting of the ban on puberty blockers, prompting hundreds of members to express their "dismay" at the union's stance, as per The Telegraph.

Dr. Hillary Cass, a pediatrician, released a groundbreaking report for the UK government in April regarding the safety of gender transitioning for children. Evidence revealed sex change treatments for minors were harmful and should not be recommended.

Despite the results of the review being broadly accepted, the BMA union rejected the findings and pledged to form a group to rebuke the evidence. More than 900 of its members signed an open letter calling on the union to accept the review's findings.

The letter, which has also been signed by 23 former or current presidents of medical royal colleges, stated that the union is "going against the principles of evidence-based medicine and against ethical practice."

Doctors have since torn up their BMA membership cards over the matter.

"On the basis of the BMA's outrageous stance on the superbly researched and written Cass Report, which has my full support and endorsement, I have decided to leave the BMA having been a member for 50 years since I qualified as a doctor," one doctor told The Telegraph.

"Increasingly, they not only fail to represent my views, they display no respect for the very premise and ethos inherent in being a medical professional," they added.
