Eric Adams was a pioneer; he campaigned on having the then-800,000 non-citizens be able to vote - something even his radical predecessor Bill de Blasio knew was a bridge too far and illegal. Once in office, Adams moved full steam ahead to implement the unconstitutional plan. He was supported by the New York City Council. Of the 51 member body, 45 are Democrats, many of which are Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), which is to say, open border zealots committed to transferring both American wealth and Americans' rights to those here illegally.
In January 2022, 800,000 non-citizens could vote in New York City elections. Democrats surely hoped that this would lead to non-citizens voting in state and federal elections. Fortunately, they were blocked. Republicans sued and in February, 2024, a state appeals court held that a New York City law that would allow non-citizens to vote in local elections is unconstitutional. Less fortunately, Mayor Adams and the City Council are already appealing that decision, seeking to have it vacated, even though it's obvious to everyone that their plan is both illegal and costly.
How do we know they know? Because Adams warned that the illegal immigrants arriving — 17,000 a month last reported in 2023— will “destroy the city.” If they'll destroy the city, you have to wonder why he wants them to work here. Yet that's exactly what he does want, seeing as Adams and other New York Democrats pressured Biden to expedite work authorizations for illegal aliens. The obvious reason is both cynical and despicable: if they work, they can vote. Just witness New York City’s “Our City, Our Vote” law, enacted in December 2021, which says anyone with a work authorization who has been in the city for a paltry 30 days can vote, even if that person came illegally.
New York City residents are thus stuck in a Catch-22: either continue to pay for the skyrocketing number of illegal immigrants, or cave to the Democrats' demands that they be allowed to work, and turn the immigrants into voters. The Democrats are, of course, lying that they want to work. We've seen the numbers. Only 2% of them have applied for work permits. Democrats know this and lie anyway, only to sway public opinion and register a new voting bloc for the Democrat party.
The issue isn’t merely local. Biden’s decision to fast-track work authorizations for Venezuelan border crossers is simply the same playbook at the national level. The fact that it’s Venezuela specifically matters because the majority of illegal immigrants flooding New York City are from Venezuela, Ecuador and Colombia. Venezuela accounts for 41% of asylum-seekers, followed by Ecuador (18%) and then Colombia (13%).
Nor are they necessarily the sorts of people we want in the US, working or not. New York City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino recently discussed the case of Venezuelan illegal immigrant Daniel Hernandez Martinez, who was arrested and released six times, with 14 different charges including assault, menacing, and criminal possession of a weapon. He is also a member of the deadly gang Tren de Aragua. After all this, he eventually landed in ICE custody, where he was supposed to be deported, except Venezuela wouldn’t take him back. Which means that this monster is now stuck in the US. Indefinitely.
And how many others like him are there? God only knows. As councilwoman Paladino explained, “[New York City] is a sanctuary city. You saw what Trump did with Proposition 42: immediate deportation…Eighteen million have crossed the border. Again, I have to lay it at Kamala Harris’ feet, she’s running for president, she’s been vice president for three and a half years.”
Correct, and given how New York City has become the testing ground for laundering these criminals into voters, we must be concerned. There is a very real chance that, if the Biden-Harris-Adams playbook succeeds, illegal immigrants will determine the future of our nation’s leadership.
