LIBBY EMMONS: Tim Walz wants to trans your kids

Walz signed a law making Minnesota a "trans refuge." This means that if a mother takes her child to Minnesota, against the father's wishes or a court order, to medically transition the child, that father has no rights to have the child returned to him.

Kamala Harris has landed on her veep pick, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, a far-left progressive who speaks with derision about his white maleness, believes that America suffers from institutional racism, and thinks that children can change their sex with a little wishing, medication, and invasive surgeries. He thinks children can decide for themselves if they were born in the wrong body and should try to change sex, and he doesn't think parents should have much to say about it.

Walz signed a law making Minnesota a "trans refuge." This means that if a mother takes her child to Minnesota, against the father's wishes or a court order, to medically transition the child, that father has no rights to have the child returned to him. This also mirrors California's law that says if a child runs away to a "trans refuge" state seeking medical sex changes, the state will not return the missing child to their family but will aid them in getting a sex change. This effectively allows Minnesota to give a minor a sex change against parental wishes. "Trans refuge" status allows states to take charge of a child and direct their medical care regardless of what the child's parents say.

Lots of people have said that the law does not actually do what it says it does, that it does not allow Minnesota to trans kids without parental consent, but it does. It says so: "A law of another state that authorizes a state agency to remove a child from the child's parent or guardian because the parent or guardian allowed the child to receive gender-affirming health care, as defined in section 543.23, paragraph (b), is against the public policy of this state and must not be enforced or applied in a case pending in a court in this state. A court order for the removal of a child issued in another state solely because the child's parent or guardian assisted the child in receiving gender-affirming care in this state must not be enforced in this state." In short, if you object to transing your kid, but your spouse does not and takes them to Minnesota, you lose—and so does your kid.

This bill was pushed by Leigh Finke a male state lawmaker who claims to be a woman. Finke was "honored" by USA Today as a Woman of the Year in 2023. He was honored as part of the outlet's project to honor "local and national heroines who make a positive impact in their communities every day." Finke began claiming to be a woman in 2017 and was elected to the Minnesota House in 2022 as many claimed history was made.

"He’s very open-spirited, very generously spirited. He asks questions about you, and he remembers the answers. He encourages me," Finke said of Walz. Finke was the author of the trans sanctuary bill. Many trans people "fled to Minnesota since Walz Finke's bill." Walz praised Finke in return, saying "I’m grateful for your work and decency."

"We’re a small community, and we have needs that need to be met. With a Harris-Walz administration, I don’t worry that trans people get forgotten," Finke said as Kamala's veep options were discussed in August. In defense of the trans refuge law, Finke said “Minnesota is a state that prides itself on providing world-class health care, but as extreme anti-trans legislation appears in numerous states, including our neighbors, Minnesota must also become a safe harbor for those seeking gender-affirming care."

"In Minnesota, we’re protecting rights, not taking them away," Walz said after signing the bill. He noted further that he was "proud to sign it into law." Walz was also one of the first to back same-sex marriage when he first ran for office in 2006. That would later be codified into law by the Supreme Court in their Obergefell decision in 2015.

His positions have been entrenched since he was a teacher with a 30-year career, during which time he advised the first gay-straight alliance club at his school, in 1999. These clubs later became havens for gender transitioning youth, with many advisors of clubs across the country keeping gender change secret.

Walz signed a law banning conversion therapy, which once meant that gay people couldn't be pressured to convert to being straight, but now means that so-called "trans" children can't be told that they are fine in their natural bodies. It is a crime in Minnesota to tell a girl who thinks she's a boy that she is, in fact, a girl. The progressive trans-advocacy group Human Rights Campaign said Walz's move was an "example of how pro-equality state legislatures and governors are able to advance LGBTQ+ rights, even as other states are rolling back critical rights and protections." Walz believes he is "protecting" kids by allowing doctors to cut off their breasts and give them drugs that stunt their growth and can lead to infertility.

"Trans people of all ages depend on gender-affirming care, which encompasses a wide range of social and medical interventions to affirm someone’s internal gender identity, including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, permanent hair removal, voice therapy, and surgical interventions," reads the bill summary from the Minn. House.

Walz requires that health insurance plans cover "gender-affirming care," which covers double mastectomies of healthy breasts for girls, hysterectomies, removal of the ovaries, the creation of a fake phallus using muscle and tissue from arms and legs to create a non-functioning appendage. It covers surgical breast enlargements for boys, castration, the creation of a non-functioning vagina often using parts of the colon. This covers drugs that stop puberty in children, cross-sex hormones to create the emergence of cross-sex secondary sex characteristics, such as breast growth, facial hair, deeper voice, stunted growth, etc. Additional forms of "affirming" medical treatment include facial surgery to create either a softer or more square jawline, Adam's apple shaving, and other forms of surgery to further give the appearance that the person is of the opposite sex.

One of those testifying in favor of the bill was a man who refers to himself as Amber Mom. “My name is Amber Mom; I use she/her pronouns,” began the man who identifies as a woman and a mother in testimony before Minnesota lawmakers. “I am also a proud transgender woman. But more importantly, I am the mother of two wonderful transgender and gender-expansive children.”

“As someone who started transitioning well into…adulthood, I know better than most how essential and life-saving gender-affirming medical care is,” Amber Mom testified. “Going through natal puberty was a traumatizing experience for me. I am so grateful that trans and gender expansive kids have access to the knowledge and medical care to be their full selves and thrive.”

In practice that means that the Minnesota Children's Hospital backs sex changes for minors. They state that "transgender youth deserve to grow up happy, healthy, safe, and strong." They advertise puberty blockers for children, cross-sex hormones for minors, and back surgical options. Those who push for this at Minnesota Children's state that "transgender kids are also claiming their identities as young as 3 or 4" and that children at that age "should feel inside based on their anatomy, and they also know that they way that they see themselves doesn’t line up with other people’s expectations."

What does all that mean for America? It means Walz will do his damndest to make sure Minnesota's laws allowing sex changes for children become America's laws allowing sex changes for children.
