JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, has continued to push back against critics of her comments regarding transgenderism, asserting that she is unfazed by the backlash.
“Amazed this still needs saying, but some don’t seem to have got the memo. If calling me ‘transphobe’ and ‘fascist’ was going to scare me out of speaking up for women’s rights, it would have happened years ago. Whatever the square root of not giving a f**** is, that’s where I am,” Rowling said in a post on X.
Rowling has faced significant criticism for her stance on transgender issues, particularly her belief that biological sex is innate and unchangeable. A self-described feminist, she has argued that transgenderism conflicts with feminism, such as in the case of biological men competing in women’s sports.
Her refusal to align with transgender ideology has led to staunch backlash from left-wing critics. Last fall for example, the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle removed all Harry Potter memorabilia referencing Rowling, citing her alleged “super hateful and divisive views.”
Despite the criticism, Rowling remains undeterred. Earlier this month, Warner Brothers revealed that Rowling participated in the selection process for an upcoming television series based on Harry Potter. The announcement came despite continued pressure by those on the left to have her removed from such projects for her beliefs.
“I’m truly thrilled to announce our director and writer, both of whom I interviewed as part of the production team. Both have a genuine passion for Harry Potter, and having read Francesca’s pilot script and heard Mark’s vision, I’m certain the TV show will more than live up to expectations,” she said in response to the announcement.
