Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has ordered police to take action against a group of farmers peacefully protesting outside his Warsaw office on Wednesday.

Police could be seen using flash bangs, tear gas and batons against the farmers holding Polish flags.

Farmers have been rallying across the European Union to protest a proposed Green Deal that would enforce strict environmental regulations impacting the agricultural sector.

Earlier that morning, some protesters carried a coffin in the streets in front of Tusk's office that read "farmer, lived 20 years, killed by the Green Deal."

"Due to physical aggression against police officers by some of the people protesting ... it was necessary to use direct coercive measures," Warsaw police wrote in a post on X.

"Behaviour that threatens the safety of our officers, including throwing cobblestones at them, cannot be taken lightly and requires a firm and decisive response."
