AUSTIN PETERSEN: If Trump wins, he can thank Iran

Oh, Biden's Blunders: A Nostalgic Replay of Carter's Catastrophes. If history repeats itself, and it often does, Biden's re-election bid might just get torpedoed by the Iranians, just like they did Carter a favor back in '79.

Remember the 444-day hostage crisis in Tehran? A perfect display of Carter's weak leadership, and guess who had a front-row seat? Joe Biden, then a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Fast forward, and it's like we're watching a rerun: Iran, Afghanistan, inflation. Biden's handling of these issues? A tragicomic echo of Carter's failures: think Carter collapsing in exhaustion mirroring Biden falling off a bicycle.

Afghanistan? Biden's hasty exit, against his generals' advice, turned into a strategic nightmare. Think Saigon 2.0, but with a Biden twist. It's like he wanted a 9/11 anniversary trophy, regardless of the cost to American lives or national security. Even Jimmy Carter wasn’t that ham handed.

Inflation? Biden first played ostrich, then called it "temporary." Now, with prices still sky-high, his team seems miffed why Americans aren't throwing a thank-you parade. Shrinkflation is a thing. Notice how every time to buy an airline ticket you’re suddenly being charged for something like picking your seat, or for a carry on AND your regular luggage? Who doesn’t love being charged to get rid of ads on the previously ad-free Amazon prime? Is your Oreo cookie creme a little thinner these days? Thanks, Joe!

And now, Iran's back in the picture. Biden's tepid responses to Iranian aggression escalated to a point where he had to order retaliatory strikes. But can he match Trump's decisive action like the 2020 strike on Qasem Soleimani? Doubtful, especially with his administration's 'please don't escalate' mantra. Still, there have been more than 165 attacks on American bases in recent months. Even Alex Jones was cheering him on when he finally retaliated against the initiation of force by Iran that led to the deaths of three US servicemembers.

Here's the kicker: Biden's banking on the same failed Obama-era bet with Iran. Engage, sign a nuclear deal, and hope for a change. But regimes like Iran don't play by those rules. They have their own game. National security adviser Jake Sullivan didn’t sound averse to actual strikes in Iranian territory, which if that happens is the kind of thing that gives voters the jitters. And every national poll is showing Trump is seen as more trustworthy on foreign policy matters than Biden. Let’s not forget too that everyone is enjoying the gradual easing of gas prices. A full on conflict with Iran would shoot those straight back up at the worst possible time for Biden.

If Trump comes back to win in November, thank Iran for the assist. They might not prefer Trump over Biden, but their actions might just hand him the victory.  And as for Biden's gamble on Iranian normalcy? Well, let's just say some lessons are harder to learn than others. I’m not hoping for an escalation here but it’s clear that if it happens that’s another good sign for Trump.
