An Australian man was sentenced to three and a half years in prison as a result of engaging in bestiality with a sheep.
George Danakis, 44, was found by police with his pants down after being awake for five days. He had been having sex with a male sheep in a shed by St. Mary's High School in Sydney in May of 2022.
Danakis was found by police sexually engaging with a male sheep as a female goat looked on the scene. The goat was said to be displaying a state of shock.
He pleaded guilty at the Penrith District Court to charges of damaging property, bestiality, possessing bestiality material, possessing an unauthorized firearm, and breaking an entry. The plea deal left him with a little over three years in prison.
Faculty at the high school became suspicious when they thought someone was breaking into the milk shed after school hours. They caught Danakis through camera footage from a closed-circuit television camera system.
The footage the school compiled was used later in court for evidence of his crimes. In addition, his phone was found at the scene of the arrest with many files containing video material of bestiality.
Video of his illicit activities were also found alongside a photo of Danakis with an unauthorized shotgun.
During the trial, Danakis' lawyer said that the man's use of methamphetamines played a role in him enjoying the sexual activity with "sheep on the side." Further, the lawyer added this led to "the state of the mind in which he did what he did."
Because of this, Danakis' excuse was that he lost all inhibitions and succumbed to his “sexual deviance.”
He had been diagnosed with schizophrenia within weeks before the incident occurred.
According to the lawyer, Danakis had told his psychiatrist that he found animals attractive only when he was under the influence of drugs because they increased his sex drive.
Later the man admitted to the doctor that he was "pretty much into bestiality" even though he also likes women.
