Posobiec posed the question to Kassam: "What is your take? Why not show up to a conservative event with young activists? And what effect, if any, does this have on the race? What message does it send?"
"He has actually been summoned to crisis talks by his donors up to The Hamptons sometime in the next week," Kassam responded. "So broadly, he's actually unable to attend the Turning Point conference because his campaign needs a turning point, right? His campaign is, I mean, I cannot stress this enough because, I've watched of DeSantis influencers over the course of the last 24 hours slamming Turning Point, saying, 'Oh, you guys are all just, you know, Trump people and, you know,' but the governor has done Turning Point events many times before and received riotous applause at these events."
Kassam went on to mention that DeSantis' campaign does not do the $4.20 donation that the Trump campaign does, but instead does "the big billionaire" donations. He mentioned that the DeSantis campaign is also "wantonly offensive in the way they treat people and firstly, the way they treat MAGA voters ... No wonder you're not picking any of them up. You're just online trashing them."
Richard Baris added to this claim in recent polling done on Iowa, suggesting that polls indicate that "Trump is up everywhere," especially among moderates and those without college degrees across the state. However, DeSantis is only doing marginally better in Iowa City, which represents the "professional class," and "educated voter." Baris concluded that Trump is still up by 30 points across the state of Iowa among all voters.
