Two were arrested in Greater Manchester after a dog attacked and killed Jonathan Hogg, a 37-year-old father, on Thursday. Police seized 15 dogs, as well as a £37,500, reportedly "the result of criminal proceeds."

The dog mauled Hogg in the throat, and though he was taken to a local hospital, he died from his injuries. Hogg leaves behind a son who is only 4-months-old while his daughter has just turned two.

One of those arrested is a 24-year-old man who is in custody and faces further questioning, The Daily Mail reports. He faces charges of being in possession in a "dangerously out of control dog causing injury resulting in death."

The Greater Manchester Police reported on Saturday morning that another arrest was made, and the BBC reports that this was a 22-year-old woman. Police "later seized six adult dogs and nine puppies - believed to be the same breed as that which attacked Mr Hogg - following their search of two houses," the BBC reports, noting that a police spokesperson said the"dogs are now being cared for at a specialist facility."

Police went to the property where the attack occured on Thursday to find the dog had been coralled into a cabin on the property. Police shot the dog on site.

"Police were called to the property at around 9.10 pm following reports of 'concern for the welfare' of a man on Westleigh Lane. When officers arrived, they found Mr Hogg had suffered serious injuries believed to be caused by a dog which was 'dangerously out of control'," The Manchester Evening News reports.

"GMP armed officers were deployed to attempt to control the dog and officers reviewed and actioned every available tactic to subdue the dog and bring it to safety. Due to the significant risk the dog posed to the members of the public, the dog was humanely destroyed," the Greater Manchester Police said in a statement.

"Firstly, I would like to extend my condolences to the loved ones of the victim of this attack. Our officers and our partners are currently supporting the victim’s loved ones at this incredibly difficult time," said Detective Superintendent Simon Hurst, of GMP’s Wigan district.

"We recognise this incident will rightly cause concern within the local area and we would like to reassure the public that we explored every possible avenue to protect the local community and the animal involved," he continued.

"We would urge members of the public to please come forward if they have any information in regard to this incident, any information you may have may be a huge help to our investigation."

The dog was known to the neighborhood, and one man reported that his son had tried to intervene.

"My son was burning rubbish and the dog started barking," said David Broxon. "He came out and started petting it, just telling it to shush, and then started play fighting with it–but suddenly it turned on him."

Hogg apparently shouted "help me" to Broxton's son, who, Broxton said, "tried to stop what was happening by throwing stones at the dog but it had got out of hand by then. It happened in minutes." Broxton's son called emergency services. In all, 6 police cars arrived on the scene.

Hogg, known fondly as "Oggy," was remembered by friends who posted on social media. "We've just had a baby and now I've got to explain to our kids why their dad is gone," Hogg's girlfriend Liberty Farrimond said to The Daily Mail.
