On Sunday, the ex-husband of Chinese model and mother Abby Choi along with two of her former in-laws were charged with murder after Hong Kong police said they found more of the woman's dismembered body parts, including her head which was found in a soup pot.
According to the Guardian, "Abby Choi’s ex-husband, Alex Kwong Kong-chi, his father, and his brother were formally charged with murder on Sunday. Kwong’s mother was charged with perverting the course of justice."
An unknown additional fourth person was arrested and another fifth suspect remains at large for the crime.
Choi was a model, social media influencer, and mother of two children. Authorities have said that she and her ex-husband had conflicts over tens of millions of dollars.
"We want to find out as much as we can, not just to convict the murderers, but to give an answer to the deceased’s family, and return justice to the deceased," said Superintendent Alan Chung.
Choi was reported missing on Wednesday according to the New York Post.
The news was released after Police searched a home in a rural Chinese village near Tai Po on Friday. Inside the house, the head and several ribs of the deceased 28-year-old were found in a pot. Authorities also found more dismembered body parts in a cemetery located in the town of Tseung Kwan O and more parts in a different apartment in Lung Mei Tsuen. Those body parts were found in a refrigerator.
While all of the remains have been taken to a lab for forensic testing, one police officer said evidence of the "fatal attack" was found in the form of a small hole on the back of the woman's skull. A van was also taken into evidence as investigators believe Choi was attacked inside the vehicle and then transported to the house.
On Saturday, ex-husband Kwong tried to escape authorities in a speedboat but failed in the attempt and was arrested. He was caught carrying roughly $4 million worth in luxury watches and $500,000.
Cheung said, "We’re still working on many clues. When we have any other clues we will do a thorough search again to find the torso and other missing parts of the body.
Bail for the accused was denied by Judge Peony Wong and the case is adjourned until May.
