The Taliban mandated a new rule requiring all female news anchors to wear face coverings while on-air.

The Taliban’s Virtue and Vice ministry in Afghanistan announced the change Thursday and began enforcing it over the weekend, Fox News reports

The Taliban said the decision was “final and non negotiable,” adding that women could opt for medical masks. By Sunday, most female anchors were wearing face coverings, while some male colleagues reportedly wore masks in support of their female colleagues.

As previously reported by Human Events News, the Taliban also announced earlier this month that women must fully cover themselves in public, leaving only their eyes visible. Women are also expected to only leave the home when necessary, and failing to comply could result in their male family members being sent to court or jail.
