Senate Democrats on Wednesday failed twice to pass their legislation to nationalize elections.
The second vote came late Wednesday night when the Senate refused to change the filibuster rules in a 52 to 48 vote, Just the News reports.
Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema came across party lines to vote with the Republicans to keep the filibuster rules, demolishing their party’s attempt to end the 60-vote threshold.
Prior to that vote, Senate Republicans, joined by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, voted against the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act in a 51 to 59 vote. Schumer joined Republicans “in order to enter a motion to reconsider the vote.”
