Progressive “Squad” member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claimed in an interview that the organized crime taking over Democratic cities across America isn’t real.
In an interview with the Washington Times, she said that “a lot of these allegations of organized retail theft are not actually panning out.”
“I believe it’s a Walgreens in California cited it, but the data didn’t back it up,” she continued.
The lawmaker made the claims despite countless videos circulating on social media, specifically taking place in California.
As reported by Red State, Republican lawmakers blasted the comments.
“I don’t know what data she is talking about,” Rep. Rodney Davis of Illinois said.
“But you don’t really need much data from some place in San Francisco or California. All you need to do is walk down the street to the CVS in Eastern Market,” he added, referring to an area of Washington D.C. “I’ve seen on multiple occasions when I’ve been in there buying things, someone will come in and raid a shelf and walk out.”
Rep. Jim Banks said her claims were “tone-deaf and offensive” to the family of a security guard, Kevin Nishita, who was killed while protecting a television crew covering a smash and grab in Oakland, California.
