The FDA on Friday cleared the Pfizer and Moderna booster shots for adults, making anyone over the age of 18 able to receive the additional dose within the coming days or weeks.
Under the federal authorization, should the CDC give a positive recommendation, people over the age of 18 will be able to receive a booster dose of whichever vaccine they choose. According to federal and state health officials, supplies should be available.
The U.S. has purchased a total of 600 million Pfizer doses and 500 million Moderna doses, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
The authorizations apply to adults at least six months after their second shot.
The CDC is expected to give its recommendation later on Friday.
