U.S. inflation rose to a 30-year high in October: a 6.2 percent annual rate.
The Labor Department said the consumer-price index increased at the fastest annual pace since 1990, the Wall Street Journal reports. Inflation also topped 5 percent for the fifth month in a row.
The core price index, which excludes food and energy, climbed 4.6 percent in October, higher than the 4 percent increase in September.
Federal Reserve officials are watching inflation measures closely to predict whether the jump in prices will be temporary or long-lasting.
