Andrew “Love Gov” Cuomo said Tuesday he will resign from office following his escalating sexual harassment scandal.
The New York governor said his resignation will be effective in 14 days, and Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul will be sworn in as his replacement.
Hochul will be the first female governor of New York, according to the New York Times.
“Given the circumstances, the best way I can help now is if I step aside and let government get back to governing,” Cuomo said. “And therefore, that’s what I’ll do.”
Cuomo’s resignation announcement came one week after a bombshell 165-page report from the New York State attorney general, which found Cuomo guilty of sexually harassing nearly a dozen women.
