Sen. Josh Hawley sent a letter to health officials Thursday, demanding answers as to why critical data from the earliest confirmed patients of COVID-19 disappeared from an NIH database.

As previously reported by Human Events News, Chinese scientists appear to have deleted data from the earliest confirmed patients of COVID-19, but one American professor recovered partial samples from an archived copy uploaded to an international database.

Dozens of test samples from patients in Wuhan were wiped from an international database used to track the origins and evolution of the virus, according to the Daily Mail.

These samples could have given insight into the origins of the virus and how long it had been spreading before the seafood market outbreak in December of 2019.

“In order to properly investigate the origins of the devastating COVID-19 pandemic - and to prevent future pandemics from occurring - investigators need access to information,” Hawley wrote in the letter. “These efforts are already hampered by the paucity of data from the early cases of the virus in Wuhan. Yet I’m growing concerned that the NIH is not taking the CCP’s obstruction and its motives seriously, especially following evidence that NIH dollars may have found their way to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”

Hawley included a list of 1o questions, which he requests answers to by July 1.
