People who lean to the right tend to be interested in things like commerce and making money and providing for their family above all and so on. Whereas journalism attracts people whose priorities are slightly different, which is to make trouble, to expose wrongdoing, and so on and so on and all the other self-flattering things that we like to tell ourselves.
