Election Day Finally Upon Us

Pre-election jitters abound across the campaigns and the nation as election eve proved to be as tumultuous as the rest of this long campaign season.

Legally speaking, first blood was drawn yesterday as Democrats in Florida filed a preemptive lawsuit against Republicans claiming the GOP was planning a zero-hour lawsuit challenging voters registered with a bad address in Duval and Glades counties.  Democrats went to court right out of the gate to stop the Republicans from doing something they haven’t done.

Governor Palin Exonerated

A new report released late Monday cleared Governor Sarah Palin of all charges of ethical violations in the firing of her former public safety commissioner.  The overblown controversy was dubbed “Troopergate” by the liberal media elites.  The new, non-partisan report was conducted by an independent investigator sanctioned by the state personnel board, an entity whose three members were appointed by Palin’s predecessor.  This new report directly contradicts the findings of the earlier, politically motivated report from axe-grinders in the state legislature.

Anchorage attorney Timothy Petumenos concluded that the investigator hired by the state legislature misconstrued certain evidence and misapplied state law in order to reach his findings.  Petumenos found that Palin did not violate state ethics law in either her decision to discharge Walt Monegan, the former public safety commissioner, or in her dealings with her former brother-in-law, Trooper Mike Wooten.

“There is no probable cause to believe that the governor, or any other state official, violated the Alaska Executive Ethics Act in connection with these matters,” Petumenos said.

Given the media frenzy over the findings of the partisan group, this report today should find itself among thousands of other news reports of Palin’s exoneration.

Barack Obama’s Grandmother Dies

Obama’s maternal grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, passed away Monday.  Dunham and her late husband helped to raise Obama.  The surprising part of the announcement was cancer as the cause of death.  Obama will continue his campaign activities and hold a ceremony at a later date.

Voter Turnout Race

In the wake of all of the speeches, ads and hundreds of millions of dollars spent, this close race has come down to voter turnout.  Polling is all over the map and has been proven inaccurate during last two presidential races, mainly due to flawed over-weighting of Democrats’ responses in computing results.  This election, some polls went as high as 25 percent more Democrats than Republicans in their weighting.

There were record numbers of Democrats registered for the primaries and general election this season, yet it is important to remember these include members of Rush Limbaugh’s “Operation Chaos” - the effort to prolong the Democrat primary race - an effort that was so successful it is now being studied at Berkeley, of all places.

Pollsters may find themselves once again trying to justify the over-weighting of Democrats by including in the mix the young, enthusiastic Democrat registrant who for some inexplicable reason does not show up at the polls.  The trend in early voting this election is in line with the historic behavior of this particular young demographic:  thin on the showing up to vote part of the election process.

Democrats also include this election season women voters who are furious with Obama for his sexist treatment of Hillary Clinton during the primaries.  Some of these women have become an internet phenomenon dubbing themselves PUMAs (Party Unity My A-).

Finally, there exists also a substantial segment of Democrats who will not vote for a Marxist desirous of “spreading the wealth around,” one who finds the U.S. Constitution fundamentally flawed and will target the coal industry (or any other American industry) for destruction - no matter what his skin color.

After 22 long months of campaigning, it all comes down to this day and voter turnout.  Get out and vote today like your very way life depends on it.  Because it does.
