A motion by Representatives Dan Lungren (Calif) and John Sweeney (N.Y.) to hold votes for all House GOP leadership positions, and not just majority leader, failed by a surprisingly close 107-to-85 vote.

"If that isn't a loud knock on the door for change, I don't know what is," said Rep. Jones. As a result, Blunt can retain his position as majority whip. The only other vacancy was chairmanship of the House Republican Policy Committee, which Shadegg resigned to run for leader. Conservative Rep. Adam Putnam (R.-Fla.) was elected to that position.
