It's official - Kinky Friedman is running for Governor of Texas. The cigar-chomping Jewish Texan is a former country singer who fronted the band (I kid you not) Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys. After recording notable songs like "Ride 'em Jewboy", which is a tribute to Holocaust victims, Kinky retired from music and became a detective novelist.
Running for governor under the slogan "How Hard Could It Be?", Kinky's campaign bumper stickers include "My governor is a Jewish cowboy" and "He's not Kinky, he's my governor". As for his priorities, Kinky proclaims: "The first thing I'll do if elected is demand a recount."
It's like the Jesse the Body Ventura candidacy. Only weirder.
