Rep. Tom Tancredo (R.-Colo.), chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus, is praising the Border Patrol's plan to apprehend illegal aliens at worksites and other places up to 100 miles inside the country.
"This is welcome news for communities in border states now suffering from the invasion of illegal aliens that has reached flood tide this spring," said Tancredo. "The Border Patrol has always had this authority and it is good to see the agency's leadership giving agents the latitude to conduct such activities. It is long overdue." In recent years, the federal government has arrested only about 500 illegal aliens per annum at worksites. "I hope this is the beginning of a new emphasis on workplace enforcement by the Border Patrol," said Tancredo.
