The Supreme Court announced Monday that it will reconsider race-based affirmative action in college admissions.

The Court said it will hear challenges to policies at Harvard and the University of North Carolina that use race as a determinant for admission, Just the News reports.

In the case against Harvard, challengers argue that the same practices that have helped black and Hispanic students gain admissions have ultimately hurt Asian-American applicants.

The cases would be heard during the fall of 2022, with a decision likely by June of 2023.

Lower courts have previously sided with Harvard and the University of North Carolina. However, Chief Justice John Roberts has opposed racial preferences, including in education.
