The ceremony is set to be held on the South Lawn, State Floor, as well as Rose Garden of the White House. The event will also include over 450 members of the military that represent all the branches of the US Armed Forces.
In addition to the members of the military, the ceremony will include the "Armed Forces Full Honor Cordon leading to a national flag display of U.S. and China flags where the United States Army Herald Trumpets will present a fanfare" as the nations' leaders meet. Both President Turmp and Xi will give remarks.
After the arrival ceremony, the First Lady and Peng will then attend the Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art. Later in the evening, the head of state will go to the White House for a State Dinner in the East Room. Melania Trump shared a video of what the State Dinner will look like.
On Friday, the president and first lady will go with Xi and Peng to the National Archives in Washington, DC to "view a variety of important records and documents significant to the American and Chinese relationship throughout history." After that, the visit will adjourn.
The meeting comes amid escalating tensions between the US and China over AI as Trump has said that the US has to go full speed ahead even while some AI company heads have called for new the technology's development to be mitigated by concerns about humanity. When Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called for a slowdown, Trump said this would only benefit China's AI industry.
"There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China. WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS! We are leading China, and all others, and will continue to do so. Conspiracy Theorists, Treasonists, Traitors, and Leakers, BEWARE! Thank you for your attention to this matter!" He said.
The conflict in Iran may also be a topic of discussion that the two leaders address, although details about what they will talk about is unclear. According to a report from Reuters, China pressed on Iran to reign in the Houthi terrorists after they and militant groups in Iraq have targeted Saudi Arabia's oil infrastructure.
