After Iran launched multiple missile strikes at US air bases in a surprise attack on Tuesday, the US military was able to intercept all of the missiles, according to CENTCOM.

"At 5:45 p.m. ET today, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran in an attempted surprise attack on U.S. forces based in the Middle East. All Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted. U.S. forces remain vigilant and at a high state of readiness," CENTCOM said in a post to X.

The incident marks the first attack from Iran against the US since President Donald Trump paused strikes against Iran last Friday after the US had conducted strikes in Iran for nearly two weeks every day. On Monday, Trump said that the administration was in "very deep talks" with Iran, according to Axios. However, the president warned that there would be "very strong military action" if a deal was not met and negotiations failed.

Although Trump expressed optimism when speaking about the negotiations with Iran, Trump said that if the US and Iran can't make a deal that "we will go back to doing what we were doing."

The outlet reported that the missile strikes from Iran on Tuesday were aimed at Jordan, the same country where two US servicemembers were killed in a missile and drone strike earlier in July. The strikes come as Trump was meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which the White House described as "positive and productive."

The conflict that began on February 28 has been going back and forth between negotiations and missile strikes for weeks. 18 US servicemembers have been killed thus far.
