After President Donald Trump carried out a strike on Venezuela and the capture of the country's president, Nicholas Maduro, international leaders reacted to the course of events, some crying fowl while others celebrated the attack against the Maduro regime.

Early on Saturday morning, Trump posted to Truth Social, "The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country. This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow. There will be a News Conference today at 11 A.M., at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP!"

Allies of the US applauded the move from Trump to capture Maduro and carry out the strike, saying that the leader needed to be removed. Pierre Poilievre, the former presidential candidate in Canada, said, “Congratulations to President Trump on successfully arresting narco-terrorist and socialist dictator Nicolas Maduro, who should live out his days in prison. The legitimate winner of the most recent Venezuelan elections, Edmundo González, should take office along with the courageous hero and voice of the Venezuelan people, María Corina Machado.”

Argentina President Javier Milei celebrated the news of Maduro’s capture. "FREEDOM ADVANCES LONG LIVE FREEDOM D*MN IT!" Milei wrote as a caption for a clip where he condemend Maduro in reaction to the capture of the Venezuelan leader.

Venezuelan opposition leader, Maria Machado, a strong ally to Trump, said in response to Maduro's capture, "Venezuelans, the hour of freedom has arrived."

Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the EU, said, “Following very closely the situation in Venezuela. We stand by the people of Venezuela and support a peaceful and democratic transition. Any solution must respect international law and the UN Charter.”

Howevever, other other countries, including allies of the Venezuelan Maduro regime, took time to condemn the move against Maduro.

In reaction to the capture of Maduro, Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum cited, "Article 2, paragraph 4 of the Charter of the United Nations," and condemned the capture of Maduro.

Translated from Spanish, a press release from the Mexico government read, "The Government of Mexico strongly condemns and rejects the military actions carried out unilaterally in recent hours by armed forces of the United States of America against targets in the territory of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in clear violation of Article 2 of the Charter of the United Nations."

Left-wing President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, condemned the strikes and capture of Maduro, saying, "The bombings on Venezuelan territory and the capture of its president cross an unacceptable line. These acts represent a most serious affront to Venezuela's sovereignty and yet another extremely dangerous precedent for the entire international community. Attacking countries, in flagrant violation of international law, is the first step toward a world of violence, chaos, and instability, where the law of the strongest prevails over multilateralism."

Additionally, Russia, an ally of the Maduro regime in Venezuela, said in a statement, "This morning, the US committed an act of armed aggression against Venezuela. This development gives rise to deep concern and warrants condemnation. The pretexts used to justify these actions are untenable. Ideologized animosity has prevailed over pragmatic engagement, as well as over any readiness to build relations based on trust and predictability. In the current situation, it is essential above all to prevent further escalation and to focus on finding a solution through dialogue. We proceed from the understanding that all parties that may have grievances against one another must seek solutions through dialogue-based mechanisms. We stand ready to support such efforts."
