Human Events has obtained text messages sent by Sen. Reuben Gallego (D-AZ) in which he criticizes members of his own party and mocked the appearance of Democratic men and women.

The comments appear in a text thread in which Gallego vents about the Democrats.

In the exchange, Gallego responds to encouragement that he could rise within his party amid ongoing political infighting. “Oh man have you met my party? I have been yelling at them this whole time,” he wrote. He would also describe the Democrats as the “not fun party,” accusing them of constantly correcting people and losing the cultural energy they used to project. “We used to be the party of sex, drugs and rock and roll,” he said.

Gallego mocked the appearance of Democrats and saying that the men look like women and vice versa writing, “Dem women look like Dem men and Dem men look like women.” He also claimed his party has made itself unappealing socially, contrasting it with what he suggested is a more vibrant GOP scene.

"IE YOU seriously your getting a lot of great press, start making the moves as much of a pain in the ass you are I believe you could become the one who rebuilds and leads them."

Gallego also responded to a photo of Rep Rosa DeLauro along with a caption that reads "if erectile dysfunction had a face" to which he said, "they aren't wrong!"

Gallego, 44, is a Democratic senator from Arizona who entered the Senate after winning the 2024 election to replace former Sen. Kyrsten Sinema. Before that, he served in the US House representing Arizona’s 7th Congressional District from 2015 to 2025.

Gallego is a former Marine who deployed to Iraq with Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines, and has frequently referenced his military service throughout his political career.

In Congress, Gallego established himself as a progressive, aligning with the Congressional Progressive Caucus and taking high-profile positions on mass immigration, veterans’ issues, and border security funding.
