A 13-year-old girl has been arrested in the United Kingdom on suspicion of murdering a woman in Swindon, according to local police.

The teen was detained Friday evening after officers responded to a disturbance at a home on Baydon Close in Moredon. When officers arrived, they found a woman in her 50s who was not breathing and had no other reported injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Inspector Darren Ambrose of Wiltshire Police’s major crime investigation team described the case as “serious” and said an investigation is underway at the home. He confirmed the girl was arrested in connection with the incident and taken in for questioning, according to Sky News.

"This is a serious incident in which a woman has sadly died. We have set up a cordon at the address while an investigation is carried out,” Ambrose said.

"I can confirm that we have arrested a teenage girl in connection with this incident and we are not looking for anyone else,” DI Ambrose added. He also urged the public not to speculate about the circumstances regarding the woman's death.

"We would encourage people not to speculate on the circumstances around this incident," he added. “We appreciate the concern that this may cause the local community. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak to an officer.”

Police said in a statement that residents should expect to see an increased law enforcement presence in the area while inquiries continue regarding the woman’s death. "The suspect remains in custody at this time,” the statement said.
