A man was beaten to death in Durban, South Africa, by a mob of 50 people. The man, in his late 30s or early 40s, "was first approached by two men by the roadside before being assaulted by a larger group," the BBC reports. The man was a foreigner.

Immigration riots have persisted in the country, with South Africans forcing Africans from other nations who have resettled there to go home, or at least get out of the country. However, no motive has yet been established for this brutal group killing.

Police are investigating but not much is known about why a mob of 50 persons would set upon a man and beat him to death by the side of the road. He was pronounced dead where he lay.

There have been substantial protests and civil unrest in South Africa, in Durban and Soweto. These protests have turned violent, with agitators setting cars on fire as well as shops.

Migrants who have been living in South Africa have been urged to leave as a wave of anti-foreign resentment has swept the nation. Demonstrators have been told by government officials to be peaceful in their demonstrations, but groups pushing the protests have issued their own deadlines to get people out.

Nations such as Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Ghana have been working to bring their citizens home. Nigerian and Ghanian nationals have been killed in South Africa with their governments blaming the South African authorities.

Those organizing the protests have been called xenophobic, but reject that term. "We can't be living with these people for so many years and now when we say it is too much, it is enough, we are told that we are xenophobic," said Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma of the March and March Movement.

South Africa has been dealing with unemployment, poverty and violence and many blame the influx of migrants for taking jobs and straining public resources.
