Mexico preps for mass deportations of citizens from US under Trump administration

Mexico could receive thousands of migrants daily.

Mexico has reportedly been ramping up preparations to receive an influx of its citizens from the United States as President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration day nears. Trump has promised mass deportations of the millions of illegal immigrants who crossed the US-Mexico southern border over the recent years.

Part of this preparation included the roll-out of a smartphone app called "Alert Button" that would allow illegal aliens to alert family members and the nearest Mexican consulate if they are about to be detained by US authorities. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also has planned to open at least 25 new migrant shelters in Mexican border cities to house migrants sent back to their country, Breitbart reports.

Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda said an additional six shelters will open in the border city of Tijuana and two will open in Mexicali.

An anonymous source within Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said that while Mexico should begin prepping to take back its citizens, it may not be as big of a problem as Sheinbaum thinks.

“Judging by what we have seen from cities in the interior of the United States, migrants from Mexico aren’t posing quite the problems that those from other countries are posing,” the CBP source explained. “Based on security threats alone, Venezuelan gang members, known criminals, and poorly vetted Special Interest Aliens are likely to be the first expelled to Mexico. Most won’t be citizens of Mexico.”

On Thursday, Sheinbaum told reporters that her Foreign Affairs Secretary Juan Ramon de la Fuente was working with other countries whose citizens have been illegally living in the United States but entered through Mexico to ensure they receive their citizens directly.

Breitbart reports that Mexico could receive thousands of migrants daily judging on past programs that were put in place by Trump during his first term as president such as the Remain in Mexico program.
