KENNY CODY: Republicans need to stop playing nice after second Trump assassination attempt

The strategy Republicans have got to formulate to change the narrative on the left's attitude toward Trump has to change, and fast.

For the second time within the last three months, a leftist tried to assassinate the 45th President of the United States and 2024 GOP Presidential Nominee, Donald Trump. Surviving yet another attempt on his life, Trump remains in high spirits, praising the action of the Secret Service for keeping him safe and apprehending the wannabe assassin before he was able to make his mark. This urgent situation demands immediate action. Luckily, there were no shots fired at the former President, and the most he had to worry about after the event was not being able to attempt a putt that would have given him a birdie on the sixth hole of the Trump International Gold Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Trump survived and will continue to campaign the way he always has despite the danger, but the second attempt on his life needs to be thoroughly examined. This is a grave situation that demands a strong response. Legally, Republicans at the federal level need to push for the worst punishment possible for Ryan Routh. Legislatively, the United States Congress needs to solidify the protection Trump has until November because the danger is now ever-present to the GOP nominee for President.

Politically, though, the strategy Republicans have got to formulate to change the narrative on the left's attitude toward Trump has to change, and fast. It's crucial to shape the public opinion in our favor. There needs to be reform on every level of the Secret Service from top to bottom because of failures. However, that cannot remain the sole focus of Republicans, but instead a response in rhetoric, narrative, and media approach to accurately paint Democrats as the party of violence.

It is now apparent that Democrats created the rhetoric that prompted Ryan Routh to attempt to take out President Trump. The grifting of the Russo-Ukrainian war, a conflict Democrats have been vocal about, convinced this same man to go into the halls of Congress and try to talk to staffers and members of Congress to support the Ukrainian government in its efforts. By donating to ActBlue, Routh had a record of contributing to various Democratic officeholders.

Now, Routh fell victim to the rhetoric of the Democratic Party's most influential figures. During the debate and on X, Vice President and 2024 Democratic Presidential Nominee Kamala Harris painted Trump as a wannabe' dictator' and 'threat to democracy and our fundamental freedoms.' President Joe Biden, whom Trump knocked out of the race, told NBC's Lester Holt, "It's time to put Trump in a bullseye." Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi stated, "Trump is a threat to our democracy of the kind that we have not seen."

These instances happen again and again about how Democrats feel about the 45th President, but it is far past time that Republicans step up to the plate and start painting Democrats the way they deserve. Now is no time for political centrism, bipartisanship, or working across the aisle. Our fight against the Democrats has to be viewed as a battle of good versus evil, violence versus peace, and sanctity over insanity.

Republicans have got to be willing to state the obvious, which is that Vice President Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, and the Democratic Party's rhetoric have contributed to a hostile environment that could incite violence against President Donald Trump.

For nearly ten years, they have called Trump a dictator and fascist and painted him as the next Adolf Hitler or Benito Mussolini. There have now been two attempts on his life as the 2024 GOP Presidential Nominee and his second wannabe assassin has proven to be subject to adhering to Democratic rhetoric through political donations and advocating for a war Democrats have promoted.

There comes a point where the blame is on the Republican Party itself if it does not act. For once, the GOP has got to have some grit in painting Democrats the way they deserve to be painted. They want Trump dead and do not care what the rest of us think about it.

Suppose we do not attempt to convince the average voter that the Democratic Party's rhetoric has contributed to a hostile environment that could incite violence. In that case, we are missing an opportunity to save our country.

Now is no time to act friendly. We have to be willing to stand up for President Trump and speak out against the Democrats who detest us.
