Three Palestinian males were arrested in Italy after they were caught allegedly planning attacks including suicide attacks against civilians in an undisclosed country, police stated Monday.

The suspects, located near Rome, used a cell phone linked to the Al-Asqa Martyrs Brigades, a militant group and designated terrorist group by Israel, the EU and the United States, with ties to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement, Reuters reports.

The men were charged with criminal conspiracy for terrorism purposes or subversion of the democratic order and face up to 15 years in prison.

"The suspects engaged in proselytism and propaganda (...) and planned attacks, including suicide attacks, against civilian and military targets on foreign territory," police said.

One of the suspects is reportedly wanted by Israel and an Italian court is considering an extradition request for him.

Israel has been fighting a war against the Palestinian militant group Hamas since October 7, 2023, when the terrorist group stormed into Israel and massacred thousands of innocent Israelis. 134 hostages have remained in captivity in Gaza ever since.

Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi hailed the arrest of "three dangerous terrorists" in a separate statement.

The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades group has not responded to requests for comment.
