"With AI, fraudsters can take a three second, and you all know this, a three second recording of your voice—I've watched one of me and I said 'When the hell did I say that?' But all kidding aside, a three second recording of your voice and generate an impersonation good enough to fool—I was gonna say your family, [but] to fool you!"
Biden was likely referring to the deep fake made by Jack Posobiec and Human Events Daily, which the team called a precreation, rather than a deep fake. The idea behind it, and others made by the same team, are that these are things that are potentially on the horizon. As wars heat up in two regions of the world, both heavily subsidized by the United States, the concern that a military draft could be implemented has only increased since Posobiec made the video earlier this year.
The clip, which Posobiec made clear was a creative and not factual undertaking, went viral on social media. It was fact-checked repeatedly, despite the fact that it was labeled by Posobiec as "a sneak preview of things to come."
Others were triggered online about the post to the point where Posobiec made a reaction deepfake of New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to play it up. The deepfake video of AOC had her stand on the House floor and declare that "the deepfake that Jack Posobiec made of President Biden is grounds for treason."
Clearly the Biden administration does not have a sense of humor, either that or the precreation hit a little too close to home.
Editor's note: a previous version of this story had unclear language regarding the AOC precreation.
