According to the letter, Rosemary Hills Elementary School in Silver Spring, Maryland will be reinstating its COVID-19 protocols after at least three individuals tested positive for the virus. The school protocols will require the third graders to wear masks at all times except while eating or drinking.
School Principal Rebecca Irwin Kennedy stated that these protocols will be implemented to “prevent further transmission” of COVID-19. She also states in her letter that the policies will only be in effect for “the next 10 days.” However, this rhetoric is eerily similar to the “two weeks to slow the spread” narrative that was promulgated at the beginning of the COVID-19 lockdowns.
Travis, who posted the now-viral parent letter on X, condemned the reinstatement of a mask mandate in a follow-up post.
“This is why all the people who keep saying, Why do you care?’ about people in masks are so wrong,” Travis explained. “These mask zealots want to force you and your kids to wear them again. This is their goal. They must be ridiculed and defeated. We have to win this battle once and for all.”
Over the last few weeks, there has been a growing narrative across the mainstream media that COVID-19 protocols should make their way back into American society. According to media reports, an uptick in the new COVID-19 variant should be “concerning” to individuals. NBC News anchor Lester Holt went so far as to imply that “COVID is making a comeback.”
The alarmism by the media has caused educational institutions to reinstate COVID-19 protocols after reports that there is a rise in the number of cases across the country. Morris Brown College was the first major institution to announce that it would be reinstating a mask mandate for students.
