According to the governor’s order, state agencies are required to define the terms “female” and “male” based on biological traits rather than the individual’s so-called “gender identity.” The order describes a female as someone “whose biological reproductive system is designed to produce ova” and a male as someone whose “biological reproductive system is designed to fertilize the ova of a female.” Governor Pillen defended the executive order, calling it “common sense” and citing his “duty” to protect children and women athletes.
“It is common sense that men do not belong in women’s only spaces,” the governor said in a statement. “As Governor, it is my duty to protect our kids and women’s athletics, which means providing single-sex spaces for women’s sports, bathrooms, and changing rooms.”
Nebraska’s decision to create legal definitions for the biological sexes comes after Oklahoma enacted a nearly identical executive order. Last month, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt stood alongside NCAA swimmer and women’s rights activist Riley Gaines as he signed the “Women’s Bill of Rights.” The order gave legal definitions to the terms “female,” “women,” and “mother” for the purpose of respecting biological differences and protecting female-only spaces.
Kansas is yet another midwestern state that has enacted laws this year to combat radical gender identity. The state passed a bill in April that requires individuals to use bathrooms and locker rooms that correlate with their “sex” rather than their self-identifying gender. The law defines sex as “either male or female, at birth.”
As the transgender movement continues to impose its will on women-only spaces, conservative politicians are taking decisive action to ensure that female constituents are protected. However, it is unfortunate that women in liberally-led states will be ignored as left-wing politicians argue it is “equality” to allow biological men to strip in women’s locker rooms and compete in women’s sports.
