The Biden Administration informed Congress that it needs at least $30 billion to keep its COVID-19 response strategy afloat.
Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra made the request to Congress on Tuesday, Just the News reports.
Since the start of the pandemic in March of 2019, Congress has shelled out around $4.5 trillion in total COVID-related spending, but it appears that isn’t enough.
Becerra and the Biden administration reportedly want the money to be included in Congress’ omnibus spending bill that is supposed to fund the government for the remainder of fiscal year 2022.
Becerra expressed to lawmakers “the need for additional resources to support securing more life-saving treatments and vaccines, sustaining testing capacity, and investing in research and development of next-generation vaccines,” an HHS spokesperson confirmed to Politico.
