Despite promising change, the Taliban made it illegal for women in Afghanistan to go on long-distance road trips alone.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice said Sunday that any women seeking to travel over 45 miles should be denied transportation unless they are accompanied by a male relative, per BizPacReview

The directive also instructs drivers to refuse rides to women who are not wearing Islamic head or face coverings, and bans the population from playing music while driving.

Additionally, last week, the Taliban asked cable television stations in Afghanistan to stop airing soap operas and dramas featuring female actors, and asked female journalists to wear head coverings while reporting.
